January Seed Starts - Leafy Greens

I saved up several 18 egg paper cartons to begin my greens seed starts. Its what I have available to me and prevents it from becoming a 'waste/recycle' product. From a local nursery, I picked up some potting soil and packed it into each egg pocket.

The waxing gibbous moon is crossing the Taurus star arrangement tonight, indicating a good time to plant greens and grains. I selected:

~arugula

~buttercrunch (bibb lettuce)

~chard

~kale

~gourmet lettuce

~mustard greens

~sorrel

~spinach

Collards, cress, endive, mache, mizuna, napa cabbage, nasturtium, and other tender greens are a good options for the Houston area too.

Follow the directions for spacing and seed depth provided on the back of each pamphlet, and pay attention to the soil temperature requirements. Some need warmer soil and others can handle the cooler temperatures.
