Forest Garden Designs
Creating diverse gardens mixed with Texas natives and seasonal annuals that mutually benefit the people, the Gulf Coast Eco-system, and the future generations. The design will be tailored to the site and personal preferences of the client, while ensuring self-resiliency and sustainability throughout Texas’ weather - including shade, food scarcity, and water limitations.
Rainwater Harvesting
Collecting rainwater through either utilizing rain barrels or the natural contours of the landscape (or both) will save the clients on utility bills, while also capturing and restoring local groundwater reserves for future unpredictable Texas weather events. Incorporating rainwater harvesting into the design reduces the external inputs and efforts of the people, conserves a limited resource, and ensures a long term solution to the water cycle.
Hardscapes
Enjoying the expanded use of either a small space or yard with integrating a hardscape of pavers or gravel to lead the clients further into their personalized forest garden spaces as well as establishing places to settle into nature. Providing an easy way to move around when it comes to harvesting, seeding, or maintenance, while also encouraging people to be with nature as our ancestors did before us, and as our generations will after us.
“The permaculture’s whole principle of having to work with nature, rather than fight against it, is not just an ethical restraint. It’s also about realizing you’re not the one in control. Nature is not only a nurturer but also a great destroyer.” — David Holmgren
