January Seed Starts - Seed Bearing Fruit

Tomatoes, Tomatillos, and Peppers seed starts in egg carton.

I saved up several 18 egg paper cartons to begin my seed starts. Its what I have available to me and prevents it from becoming a 'waste/recycle' product. From a local nursery, I picked up some potting soil and packed it into each egg pocket.

The full moon is in Cancer, indicating a good time to plant seed bearing fruit. I selected several varietals of:

~tomatoes

~tomatillos

~peppers

Tomatoes, Tomatillos, and Peppers Seed Varietals.

I utilize Urban Harvest's Planting Guides to help me decide what to plant and when for the Central Houston area. This is based off of Dr. Bob Randall's Year Round Food Gardening, which includes other parts of Houston and Southeast Texas. A couple of other good sources of figuring out what to plant for Houston is:

--> to check out community gardens or school gardens in your vicinity

--> A&M AgriLife Extension: Harris County - ask a Horticulture Agent or Master Gardener
