Tuesdays Seeds

January Seed Starts - Root Growth

I saved up several 18 egg paper cartons to begin my greens seed starts. Its what I have available to me and prevents it from becoming a 'waste/recycle' product. From a local nursery, I picked up some potting soil and packed it into each egg pocket.

Carrot, Marshmallow, and Sunchoke seed starts in egg carton.
Beet, Broccoli, Carrot, Radish seed starts in egg carton.

The waning crescent moon is nearing the end of its time in Capricorn, indicating a good time to plant for root growth or focus on pruning. This is before the New Moon in Aquarius, which signals a time for rest or focusing weeding, mulching, fertilizing, or harvesting. I selected to plant seeds of:

~beets

~broccoli

~carrot

~marshmallow

~radish

~sunchokes

Planting for root growth can extend to planting native evergreen trees/shrubs or native deciduous trees/shrubs. Winter is a great time to plant 1" caliper trees in Houston, while they are dormant and focus on their root growth.

Seed Starts in egg cartons.
